"विजयनगर रोमपेक्षा भव्य शहर आहे. विजयनगरची रचना पाहून डोळ्यांचे पारणे फिटते. तेथील फळाफुलांनी बहरलेल्या बागा आणि रमणीय सरोवरे अत्यंत आकर्षक आहेत. उत्सव सुरू झाला म्हणजे सैनिकांचे संचलन ,खेळ, नृत्य, शोभेचे दारूकाम, मोठमोठ्या मिरवणुका यांनी ही नगरी गजबजून जाते. या उत्सवांच्या वेळी विजयनगरचे संपूर्ण वैभव जणू रस्त्यावरून चालले आहे असे वाटते. खरोखर या नागरी इतकी सुंदर नगरी पृथ्वीच्या पाठीवर दुसरी नाही."

राणी समजून दासीला नमस्कार
याच पेस ने अजुन एक नोंद केली आहे ती खूप मजेशीर आहे. विजयनगरच्या राजाने पेस बरोबर एक नोकर दिला आणि विजयनगर दाखवण्यास सांगितले. एका महालात तो आला असताना त्याच्या समोरून एक स्त्री गेली. तिच्या अंगावर अती मौल्यवान दागिने, वस्त्रालंकाराने होते. तिला पाहून पेसने तिला झुकून नमस्कार केला. सोबतच्या नोकराला हसू आले व त्याने विचारले तिला इतक्या नम्रपणे नमस्कार का केला. त्यावर पेसने उत्तर दिले की त्या राणीसाहेब आहेत म्हणून नमस्कार केला. त्यावर निकराने पेसला सांगितले की ती राणी नाही एक साधी नोकर आहे. जर दास दासी राणी सारख्या वाटत असतील तर त्या राज्याच्या राजा राणीचे वैभव कसे असेल. तिथली प्रजा किती सुखी असेल याची कल्पना करण्यासाठी एवढा प्रसंग पुरेसा आहे.

इराणी वकील अब्दूर रझ्झाक म्हणतो
"या सर्व पृथ्वीतलावर  विजयनगर इतके वैभवशाली नगर कोणी डोळ्यांनी बघितले नाही किंवा कानांनी ऐकले नाही. याच्या संरक्षणासाठी विजयनगर भोवती एकात एक असे सात भक्कम तट आहेत. शहरात आरोग्याच्या सर्व सोयी आहेत. पाण्याचे कालवे सगळी कडे खेळवले आहेत. बाजारात मौल्यवान रत्नांची भरभराट आहे. रत्नांची पुष्कळ दुकाने आहेत. नगरातील लोकांना सदैव ताजी फुले मिळतात. राजवाड्याची इमारत सर्वात उंच आहे. तेथील तळघरे सोने, रत्ने यांनी भरलेली असतात. खरोखर विजयनगर ही एक अपूर्व आणि अद्भुत नगरी आहे."

कसे होते विजयनगरचे राजे?
"नाव आडदी भाषीगे तपोवदिल्ल" हे कानडी वचन विजयनगर चे सम्राट पाळत होते.
आम्ही दिलेला शब्द कधीही मोडत नाही असा होतो त्याचा अर्थ.

विजयनगरचे राजे स्वतःला हिंदुराय- सुरत्रान म्हणवून घेत तसेच स्वतःला पृथ्वीचा पती, विष्णूचा अवतार मानीत. यांच्या बिरुदावलीत ते सूचित करीत की आम्ही गजपति, अश्र्वपति, नरपति आहोत. शिवाय ते विरप्रताप, प्रौढप्रताप, विजनगरी पुरंदर, दक्षिण सूरत्रान, विजयभुपती अशी उपापदे देखील मिरवीत.

भगवा ध्वज आणि त्यावर सूर्य, चंद्र,खंजीर, वराह हे विजयनगर सम्राटांचे राजप्रतिक होते. हा ध्वज मोठ्या डौलात एके काळी फडकत होता. आकाशात सूर्य चंद्र आहेत तोपर्यंत हे राज्य राहील अस   ध्वजावरील सूर्य-चंद्र दर्शवितात तसेच ते हिंदू चक्रवर्तीत्वाचे अर्थात सम्राटपदाचे प्रतीक आहे.

खंजीर हे योग,भोग आणि शांतीचे प्रतीक आहे. ज्याप्रमाणे विष्णूने वराह अवतार घेऊन उन्मत्त हिरण्याक्ष चा वध केला व पृथ्वीला वाचवले अगदी त्याचप्रमाणे परकीय सत्ता, उन्मत्तता, आसुरी लालसा नष्ट करून आपल्या भूमीचे रक्षण आम्ही करू हे ध्वजावरील वराह सूचित करतो. तर ध्वजाचा भगवा रंग साधुत्वाचा, योगक्षेम आणि त्यागाचा आहे.
याच सम्राटांनी मुस्लिम शासकांना  दे माय धरणी ठाय करून सोडले. आपल्या भूमीचे रक्षण केले. प्रजेला सुखी केले.

कृष्णपुरा, विठ्ठलपुरा, कमलापुरा,वेंकटपुरा, विरुपाक्षपूरा, ना अशी उपनगरे या राजधानीत होती किंवा अजूनही आहेत.
साम्राज्य म्हणजे काय? या प्रश्नाचं एका शब्दात उत्तर सांगायचं तर ते म्हणजे विजयनगर. इथल्या बाजारपेठा, मंदिर, इमारती सगळं काही भव्य दिव्य. इथलं वैभव पाहून कुबेराला देखील लाज वाटावी .

"Vijayanagar is a more magnificent city than Rome. The structure of Vijayanagar is breathtaking. The lush gardens and beautiful lakes are very attractive. The whole splendor of Vijayanagar seems to be walking down the street. This city is truly the most beautiful in the world. "

The same Pace has made another note that is very interesting. The king of Vijayanagar gave a servant along with Paes and asked him to show Vijayanagar. As he entered the palace, a woman approached him. She was adorned with very precious ornaments. Seeing her, Paes bowed to her. The companion smiled and asked why he had greeted her so politely. Paes replied that she was the queen. The servant told Paes that she was not a queen but a simple servant. How were the kings of Vijayanagar?
The emperor of Vijayanagar was observing the Kannada word "Naav aadadi bhashige Tapovadilla".

The kings of Vijayanagar called themselves Hindurai-Suratran and also considered themselves the husband of the earth, the incarnation of Vishnu. In his degree he indicated that we are Gajapati, Ashvapati, Narpati. He also performed the titles of Virpratap, Praudhpratap, Vijnagari Purandar, Dakshin Suratran, Vijaybhupati.

The saffron flag and the sun, moon, dagger and Varah(pig) on it were the royal emblems of the Vijayanagara emperors. The sun and moon on the flag indicate that this kingdom will last as long as there are suns and moons in the sky. The dagger is a symbol of yoga, suffering and peace. Just as Vishnu took the incarnation of a pig and killed the frantic Hiranyaksha and saved the earth, so the pig on the flag indicates that we will protect our land by destroying the alien power, mania, demonic lust. The saffron color of the flag is of yogakshema and tyaaga.
These same emperors expelled the Muslim rulers. Protected our land. Made the people happy.
